WHAT?!?!?!

I just turned on the news and the Broncos fired Mike Shanahan! I know the defence sucked and we set a record that no team wants, but I didn’t see Shanahan getting fired!

I guess it could be worse, we could be Detroit!

Alyssa’s First Christmas

First, sorry for changing my page (again). I was getting complaints about it hurting their eyes when they opened it. Second, here are some pics of Ally’s first Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!!

This is my new favorite Christmas song. KYGO had to play it one morning on the way to MOPS and I just had to share. ENJOY! (Dad, this is mainly for you and Mom!)

Car Seats And Coats

As you can tell by now, I have been doing a lot of research on car seat safety and I want to become a car seat tech at some point. As I learn more, I will obviously share more. Here is what I have learned today.

When the weather gets cold, we reach for a coat. That’s a given. While the coat on a baby can keep them warm, it can also greatly impare the car seats ability to do it’s job. Here is why.

When you place a child with a coat on in their seat, you have to add some slack to the straps. When you re-tighten the straps, you can’t get them as tight as you could if there was no coat on. In an accident that slack can be deadly. The puffiness of the coat can compact and cause the baby to be ejected from their seat.

There are products out there designed top help. JJ Cole’s Bundle Me (baby and toddler) is one of those products, but it does the same thing as the coat. The back padding on it can compress. It also interferes with the way the straps are routed. Making the seat less safe.

Some of the better products out there are:

You can still use a coat if you pull the front of the coat (where the zipper is) through the harness and zip it up over the harness as soon as it is tight. The following video can give more insight.

The Christmas Spirit!

christmasimageblog

My lovely friend Bethany from MOPS sent me this award (this makes 3 this year!)

There are some rules with this award:

*You must be a true Christmas lover to receive this award.

*The person to whom you give the award must also be in love with Christmas.

*You must link back to the person who gave you the award.

*You must list 5 things that you love about Christmas. If you can’t limit it to 5 things, then keep going till you run out of space! :o) Pass the award along to as many people as you like. That can be 1 or 45; it’s up to you. But, you must pass it on to at least one person in order to keep the Christmas cheer going! Let your recipients know that you have tagged them by leaving them a comment on their blog.

Five things I love about Christmas:

* Going to visit my Family On Christmas Eve and Christmas day. Believe me these gatherings can be HUGE!

* Watching all of the Christmas cartoons on TV and then watching them dvd later in the month

* Baking cookies with my mom, although I don’t know if we will do it this year

*  Seeing the joy on a childs face when they open that toy thy just had to have

*  Seeing Ally playing with her first Christmas present in the store, then ripping the paper open while playing with the box and then helping me re-wrap it several times before I filled in the opening with newspaper so she couldn’t pop the paper again.

I am passing this onto:

My Mom

My Dad

Dave

Jeanie

 and finally my dear Kaela

This Was Sent To Me Today

I had read about this little boy in a news article right before I bought Alyssa’s carseat. His story is the reason I plan on keeping Ally rear-facing as long as possible. A friend on cafemom sent me the link to his page and I had to share it. Please pass it on to anyone you know with small children.

One year and 20 pounds is a minimum! Many convertible carseats can be used rear-facing until 35 pounds. There are NO documented cases of children’s legs being broken from rear-facing, but many cases like Joel’s, many of which the children have died.

Joel’s Journey

Congrats!!!

One of my dear MOPS friends had her baby the other day. Congrats Kaela! Your are a beautiful mama! Your newest son is adorable and I can’t wait to see him in person!
