My Chewing Queen (or otherwise OW!!!)

It’s a daily occurance now. Alyssa will start wimpering or crying and just chew. Not suck, I mean CHEW! Everyone told me to watch out when she gets her teeth, but no one warned me about her gums! She’ll be hungry and nursing like a champ then CHOMP! Need I say OW! Who knew a baby’s jaw could be so powerful?!?

I think she may be getting some teething symptoms. She used to NEVER drool (something she is great at now), is chewing on something constantly, and is crying when she isn’t chewing. I have read that babies can get their first tooth as young as 3 months and that they can have symptoms for several months before the tooth pops.

I’m praying for sooner rather than later.

My roommate’s baby turns one today! Her advice is 1) freeze a wet washcloth and let her chew on it for the pain 2) get all-natural teething tablets to put under her tongue to relieve the pain or 3) get baby orajel to numb the pain. She would also suggest you have baby tylenol and a thermometer on hand at all times. Teething babies may get a temperature and you can give her some Tylenol when her temperature gets to 100F. She also found that if she took her baby to the doctor before his temperature hit 102 or 103, they just told her he was teething and to go back home.
